You Are Beautiful!

Psalm 139:14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Last year, I decided to include the word beautiful in my greetings to other women. “Good morning beautiful”, “How are you today beautiful” , and “Your smile is so beautiful” were just a handful of the sayings that I made an effort to say each day.

I loved it. Women would smile, blush, thank me and sometimes make comments about how that wasn’t true about them. After awhile, it just became a part of my normal every day language and I didn’t have to think about it anymore. Within about 6 months, I noticed that people who were around me all the time had incorporated the world “beautiful” into their daily vocabulary as well. More people were smiling and some now accepting the compliments and just maybe, even some beginning to believe the compliments. It was becoming an epidemic. A good one.

Last weekend my grand daughter came over for a visit.
While she was here she wanted to watch Beauty and the Beast. I was very familiar with the Disney Movie as I had seen the original with my own daughter in 1991.

It is easy to get lost in the romance of the movie if you are a single woman, the selfless sacrifice of the daughter for her father if you are a a woman helping a aging parent, and/or get carried away by the music and magic if you are in a place where you wish you weren’t.

However I want to focus on the beginning of the story: One winter’s night, an enchantress disguised as a beggar offers a cold-hearted prince a rose in exchange for shelter. When he refuses, she transforms him into a beast and his servants into household objects. She bestows the Beast with a magic mirror before hexing the rose and warning him that, unless he learns to love another and earns their love in return by the time the last petal falls, he and his servants will lose their humanity forever.

You see, you were made in God’s image. God doesn’t make junk! Like a snowflake, every person is unique. No two are the same. God sees you as a masterpiece; and when you look in the mirror, He wants you to “know that full well. “You are beautiful, whether you believe it or not. Beauty is not what is on the outside, Belle discovered this in the movie as she fell in love with the Beast. If you show love the way God shows love, others will see you as beautiful. When you treat others badly and think only of yourself, others will see you as ugly. The Beast learned this lesson as he was transformed into the beast for his bad deeds and restored to the prince because of his good heart.

Try incorporating the word beautiful in your daily vocabulary to other women. Every morning say Psalm 139:14 when you look at yourself in the mirror and smile. Try to impact someones life today with a kind deed. Praise Him every day, because you are fearfully and wonderfully made; His works are wonderful, You know that full well. In case you have not heard it today: YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!
